A post-industrial residential area close to nature
Kragh & Berglund is working on the strategy for the development of Enhörna, the gravel exploitation zone in Södertälje, into a residential and recreational area with a unique environment from the existing post-industrial and nature scenarios. The new buildings will complement the surrounding areas and offer accommodation to several groups, such as young adults, elderly and researchers. The existing soil has strong values for experiments and ecological qualities, but it is today inaccessible to people. The unique environment is home to multiple animals, birds and plants which should be preserved. When the industry ceases, the area will be opened and available for development and programming.
The new buildings are placed on the edges of the area so that the residents can get breath-taking views over the valley and the Lake Mälaren. The recreation areas will be placed along the public spaces where an eco-social corridor is created and will become an exciting recreational path to discover, with planting and activities mixed with post-industrial elements.
