A square for conversations – a square for informal meetings
The overall proposal is based on the agricultural landscape of Bornholm where extensive fields are interrupted by small pockets of nature where the bedrock protrudes and prevents cultivation of the land. The cultivated surface consists of a new asphalt surface with local granite stretching from facade to facade in which uncultivated hilly islands of grass, solid rock and scattered trees are placed.
The hilly islands are placed along Godthåbsvej and create a special green line between the street and the square. The hilly islands are established as soft hills of cut grass through which the granite protrudes. Scattered oak trees are planted, a lightly leafy tree that in time will create a beautiful play of light and shade on the islands and the surface. Towards the square the hilly islands are divided off by low plinths in light coloured granite or concrete, the purpose of both the grass hills and the plinths is to encourage to informal and free leisure.
