When Gentofte Sportspark was undergoing renovation, Kragh&Berglund was asked to create the compound’s new outdoor areas. The lowered square in front of the building is the new heart of the park and serves as the arrival zone while also drawing connections to Arne Jacobsen’s original compound from 1936. The square is reserved for pedestrians and cyclists and is built to resist heavy rain with dimensions for a 100-year storm. The unusual outdoor areas of the new Gentofte Sportspark create a visible and recognizable landmark for the sports’ organizations in Gentofte Municipality.
A COHERENT ACTIVITY CENTER
In front of the arrival square, a parking area reserved for “Kiss n’ Ride” has been established, so the park’s visitors can be dropped off quickly. Kragh&Berglund also optimized the parking conditions so guests arriving by car can easily find a spot at the larger events. As part of the comprehensive renovation effort, the football courts are covered by artificial grass, which provides optimal conditions for outdoor training all year. The courts have been approved by the Danish Football Association and The Danish American Football Association and are home to HIK, Copenhagen Towers, and FC Græsrødderne. Several new activities have been added to the park including new comprehensive athletics facilities, and the entire area is connected by green surfaces and the many stands have plenty of space for audiences.
