For many years, in an old courtyard of a building at Sankt Hans Gade, there has been a small and quiet playground. As a part of the development and modernization of playgrounds in the municipality of Copenhagen, Kragh & Berglund had the opportunity to transform the playground into a pocket park with simple design which creates an unusual play area and safe environment for children.
A PLEASANT PLACE AWAY FROM THE STRESS OF THE CITY
The main idea was to create a variety of possibilities for a simple use. An intimate “spot” where children can find refuge or hide away in a small pleasant space, away from the stress of the city. The playground represents the sea with blue rubber asphalt and it is completed with an archipelago of artificial hills spread on a beach, connected by balance beams and a suspension bridge. Between the islands stand a group of anchorage posts and a navigation structure. In the sea one can find round orange benches that represent the lifebuoys.
