TINGBJERG URBAN SQUARE

Tingbjergs Culture house & Library is located in an important cultural environment in the district, which was created in the 1950s by the Danish landscape architect C.Th.Sørensen. The new cultural center is a distinctive landmark for the district and is particularly created to promote cohesion and community in the area. The square that Kragh & Berglund has constructed around the cultural center is based on the same aspirations. It provides space for both informal meetings and residing, as well as market days and other big cultural events.

A NEW PLACE WITH A LONG HISTORY

Kragh & Berglund has worked in depth with the place’s unique context and history and meticulously added green elements. This offers the inhabitants of Tingbjerg the possibility to experience the changes of the season and the growth of the trees. The design of the landscape has been developed together with the inhabitants of Tingbjerg. This ensures that the project has local ties. It is important for the district to create a space for the users, which they can take pride in and use for informal meetings.

TESTIMONIAL

“Kragh & Berglund has succeeded in creating an urban space that has a clear identity and goes into refined dialogue with buildings and landscape. They re-used for example the original cobblestone pavement to create a new urban space with its own identity. They have carried on the area’s cultural milieu and heritage, and created a welcoming urban space, that can strengthen neighborhood and cohesion.”
