Together with Holscher Nordberg, Urban Creators, and DEM Esbensen, Kragh&Berglund have developed a strategy for the restructuring and development of Nittedal for the town’s municipality.

Nittedal’s hills, woods, farmlands, river and creek are part of what makes Rotnes unique. Although nature is integral to the region, the town has been planned according to its infrastructure, and today Rotnes appears discontinuous and its functions randomly distributed.

The appointment of Rotnes as an area of increasing population density in the Oslo region bodes big changes for the town. To accommodate the newcomers, it needs to be expanded, not only in terms of housing, but also with offers such as cafes, shops, and sports venues. Infrastructure projects like the new highspeed railway from Oslo and the rerouting of the RV4 highway generate urban development.

The planning of Nittedal was structured in multiple phases with water and nature as central strategic tools. The water was given new shapes and redistributed, making it central to the identity of the new neighborhoods. Green areas were stretched across the town to bring nature back into focus and integrate it into the network of trails. Trails for cross-country skiing, horseback riding, and hiking become an integrated part of the town and everyday life there. The water running through the Delta Neighborhood creates little islands with houses in clusters, bringing nature into the center of the town. By Mosecenteret, the water has been made more urban and one can enjoy a cup of coffee on the steps of the stairs and watch life in the town go by.

The buildings that include shared facilities are distributed strategically in the plan so the program in the city center can be made denser. This density creates a synergy between the functions and generates an engaged and diverse urban life.
