The metro plaza at Sluseholmen Station is located in the southern part of Sluseholmen Syd and serves as the station forecourt for the M4 Sydhavn Metro Line.

Set within a complex urban environment, the plaza brings together a wide range of functions and users. First and foremost, it operates as a transport hub for residents of Sluseholmen and employees from the surrounding commercial buildings, providing daily access to and from the metro.

At the same time, the plaza is designed as a public recreational space with direct access to the waterfront at Fordgraven. As the surrounding residential and commercial developments become fully occupied, the area has the potential to evolve into a vibrant local meeting place for the district.

Both the design and construction of the metro plaza presented significant challenges. The site is positioned between Sydhavnsgade, a major traffic corridor, and the former industrial harbour at Fordgraven. Construction of the metro station took place simultaneously with two large corporate headquarters located close to the station, creating a highly constrained building site and requiring careful coordination of construction activities, pedestrian access, and passenger movement throughout the development period.

Safety has been a central consideration throughout the project. The design ensures clear and unobstructed access for emergency response vehicles while also integrating fire rescue areas required for the surrounding buildings and the station itself.

These technical and safety requirements have been carefully integrated into the overall design of the plaza, while maintaining a strong focus on clear and intuitive passenger flows to and from the station. The layout accommodates pedestrians, cyclists, bus passengers, and all other metro users in a logical and efficient way.

Accessibility has been a key priority across the entire project. Regardless of how passengers arrive at or depart from the station, the surrounding public space is fully accessible, with solid, even surfaces and step-free routes designed to support people with reduced mobility.
