Over the past 20 years, Sluseholmen has developed from an industrial and commercial area into a well-functioning urban district. It’s characterized by canals, high density, enclosed block structures with green courtyards, strong façade variation, and quaysides that invite staying and water-based activities. At Elmeholm we aimed to create a lush green oasis as a courtyard that will function both as communal space and urban threshold.

The courtyard includes a “city forest” with orangery, green areas, play and seating zones, as well as masonry in naturally broken sandstone, which helps give the area character and create seamless transitions between the different outdoor spaces.

Paving includes concrete slabs, grass reinforcement, and reused local stone. Gabion walls filled with stones, shells, and organic material define the central green space and support biodiversity and social zones.

The project also includes Etta Camerons Vej with paving, planting, urban furniture, and lighting. The road includes a safe school route, cycle paths, and a quay zone. Plant beds along façades create greenery and soften the base of the buildings. The school route uses herringbone paving; the quay area is gravel. Small tree clusters, benches, and lighting are placed along the edge.
