Kragh Berglund, in collaboration with Odsherred Municipality and Realdania, has revitalized the public space surrounding Asnæs Station as part of a targeted urban initiative. The project aims to transform the station area into a welcoming and vibrant urban environment that serves both as an arrival point for newcomers and a daily gathering space for commuters.

The project transforms the existing framework of the Asnæs Station area into a new and attractive urban space, with a focus on material reuse, environmentally friendly solutions and the creation of a culturally stimulating environment.

The project revitalizes the area through a series of carefully considered, high-quality interventions. A continuous paving design – extending through Enghaven – is executed in circular patterns using reclaimed bricks, cobblestones, and concrete tiles. This approach not only establishes a strong visual coherence across the site but also significantly reduces resource consumption by prioritizing reuse and sustainable material choices.

We carefully studied the paving designs to ensure they add character and contribute meaningfully to the public spaces in Asnæs. Throughout the process, local youth and businesses played a vital role in shaping the design of the benches, the pavilion and the paving patterns.

The public space has been upgraded with new seating options – including the distinctive plastic sleeper benches made from recycled ocean plastic – that encourage both short breaks and social interaction.

The design integrates lighting, planting, paving, and engaging spatial elements to enhance the overall experience. A colorful pavilion adds a playful and vibrant focal point, contributing to a dynamic and welcoming atmosphere.

The urban renewal of Asnæs is being carried out over a five-year period, with completion scheduled for 2027.
