Together with Odsherred Municipality, Kragh Berglund has revitalized Vig’s main street, Vig Hovedgade, with strong emphasis on pedestrian and cyclist safety. A main design strategy was reusing the existing material to lower costs, environmental footprint, as well as maintaining the city’s identity.

Along the street the lighting fixtures as well as most of the sidewalks have been preserved, while the road composition along Vig Hovedgade and the paving at Torvepladsen have both been reused.

For Vig Hovedgade, reusing existing materials allowed the construction budget to be maintained at a low level, amounting to 3 200 000 dkk for 3000 m² – equivalent to 1067 dkk/m².

The sidewalks, area around the crossings, and Torvepladsen have been preserved at the same level as before, while the car path is lowered by ca 8 cm. This hierarchy distinguishes between the connecting roads and the slower pace of the main street.

The paving at Torvepladsen has been redesigned with some of its existing components. The old monastery stones have been integrated in a new pattern, combined with light grey granite setts to create a harmonious and contemporary surface.
