Together with LOOP Architects, Reværk, Artelia, and AVDP, Kragh Berglund has won the architectural competition for Håndværkskollegiet (Craftsmen’s Dormitory). The new dormitory for students in the craftsman program is now being realized. The building will be placed in the lively Roskilde neighbourhood, Musicon, contributing to already thriving culture and community.
The landscape is structured by a clear grid that ties the buildings together with the site’s industrial past. It draws on traditional craft measurements—fathom, ell, foot, and hand—scaled and combined into a living system of proportions. This creates a varied landscape of passages, open spaces, and edge zones, all rooted in a human scale.
Reuse becomes a guiding principle and a creative driver. The grid is built from traces of the site’s former industry, using reclaimed concrete slabs from demolition. Within this framework, selected areas shift in character and function, becoming spaces for experimentation, student projects, and material transformation. Reused materials are not hidden—they are active, shaping daily life, learning, and a constantly evolving landscape.
Reclaimed materials also help generate a wilder, more diverse landscape in a compact footprint. Rubble and broken asphalt create pockets for spontaneous vegetation, forming small habitats and micro-ecosystems across the site.

Water is made visible and active in the design. Planted edge channels and depressions collect rainwater, easing runoff while supporting resilient planting. The result is a landscape where water, nature, and reuse work together—bringing softness and unpredictability into an otherwise structured grid.
