Kragh & Berglund won the 1st prize in the competition for Samaranch Memorial – a park in memory of Juan Antonio Samaranch, the Spanish president of the International Olympic Committee.

The proposal places the memorial building in a park and creates a slight sloping landscape, inspired by the dunes landscape along the Westcoast of Denmark. By adding a hilly terrain in an otherwise flat landscape, the proposal creates it’s own intimate setting for the museum.

The park is overlaid by a fine grid that expands in strategic places and creates rooms with different characters. In the middle of the park there is an artificial lake that works as a stormwater management feature to the area. The water is led from the planting areas to the central lake, and afterwards to the nearby canal.

“By adding a hilly terrain in an otherwise flat landscape, the proposal creates it own intimate setting for the museum.”
