PLUG N' PLAY
In 2008, Ørestad in the outskirts of Copenhagen faced negative media coverage, which gave the area a bad reputation. Kragh&Berglund won the competition for a temporary square for the neighborhood that would help create community, urban activities, and attention. The space was constructed as a temporary project in 2009 and was shut down in 2016 as planned in favor of new urban development.
A TEMPORARY GENERATOR OF URBAN LIFE
Plug N Play was Copenhagen’s new laboratory for movement in the city: an activity park with sports facilities primarily based on the philosophy of “plugging” various temporary activities into an existing infrastructure with water, electricity, light, and storage space. The aim was to generate urban life in the new neighborhood. The project contained a large amount of urban and raw elements as was reflected in, among other things, the intertwined network of paths.
