SANDVIG BEACH PROMENADE

In Sandvig in Bornholm, Kragh & Berglund have renovated and requalified the coastline along the bay, next to the center of the city. The new walkway leads the visitors along the waterfront and from the dunes out to the water. The character of the place is reinstalled and emphasized by the introduction of materials such as wood, concrete and wind-resistant plants. The project was a part of an initiative that helped to improve and strengthen the environment along the coastline and provide new opportunities and experiences for residents and tourists. It was designed to be an active place for the city – on land and in the water, both in summer and winter.

WAVING BENCHES ALONG THE INLET

The new promenade creates distinct areas with gathering places along the bay. Here is thus created a new urban space with room for markets, outdoor dining and local festivities, where play stands together with sports and activities. A new walking bridge provides access for the transportation of outdoors equipment to and from the water, for divers and kayakers. This makes the water easily accessible to everyone and at the same time ensures that the connection is safe.

TESTIMONIAL

”It is a very fine walk way created along the bay from the beach to the harbour, and the connection between the city and the coast line is recreated. The the promenade and recreated glitter and plantations appears now as a part of the scenic area at Sandvig Bay. The beach promenade became an attractive urban space with space and opportunities for seats, markets, cultural events, outdoors dining and play.”

Winni Grosbøll, Mayor of Bornholm
