Together with Schmidt Hammer Lassen Architects, Kragh&Berglund designed a new landscape around Helsingborg Hospital that adds value to all of Helsingborg by connecting the hospital with the adjoining green areas in Helsingborg City. The landscape surrounds the building providing the entire neighborhood with a much-needed upgrade that makes the hospital an integrated part of the city’s pulse.
The landscape surrounding the hospital is rooted in the concept of “healing landscapes” and nature’s healing effect on the body. A combination of vegetation, water, and sound/light installations creates small atmospheric worlds where the individual court yards turn into landscapes: a quiet room with water reflecting the stars, the sound of birds in the trees, a field with rainwater that creates flooding and variation. This creates positive associations and distracts from the hospital environment.
The elements of urban nature in the proposal establish the necessary connections to the city’s green structures. Plants and greenery have been prioritized in the landscape plan and a multitude of local species generate robust and dynamic landscapes with high levels of biodiversity. The vegetation is planted in zones with smooth transitions, tall grasses, and fields become areas with taller trees and lush beds for pine trees that open up onto little clearings. A trail for pedestrians and cyclists is woven into the landscape and makes the hospital park easily accessible to everyone living in Helsingborg.
