Friday the 22nd of February the official opening of Roskilde Festival Folk High School took place – the first new folk high school in Denmark for 50 years. It is situated in a former concrete production hall in the Musicon district and creates the framework for classrooms, stages, a dance hall and workshops for creative sessions.
The areas nearby the hall support the learning and liveliness – large terraces create a vivid framework for the folk high school’s education.
The landscape consists of self-grown nature. The former industrial tracks are made visible and go hand in hand with the modest interventions. These differences reinforce each other. The site’s existing structures are enhanced and become a part of the folk high school’s exceptional qualities – and a part of everyday life.
The landscape is created by Kragh&Berglund in collaboration with LIWplanning – COBE and MVRDV developed the building design.
