Kragh&Berglund was hired by The Child and Youth Administration and Copenhagen Properties to refurbish the public school Dyvekeskolen’s outdoor areas to provide new opportunities for play as well as rainwater solutions. The project was part of a comprehensive renovation effort honoring the school’s new sustainable profile, its classical 70s architecture, and the existing landscape.
SCHOOL BUILDING OF
THE YEAR 2014
Kragh&Berglund upgraded the spaces for play and learning by performing a series of gentle interventions into the school’s large and varied outdoor areas. The existing topography is used as the bed for areas with local rainwater collection redirecting the water via sustainable and climate-proof drainage, while the streams running through the schoolyard create different rooms for games, teaching, and recreation.
TESTIMONIAL
"Dyvekeskolen is a spectacular example of how sustainable renovation can fuse recovery, modernization, energy renovation, climate change adaptation, indoor climate, and accessibility.”
Frank Jensen,
Former mayor of Copenhagen Municipality
